If you are looking for snow in August, this is your place. The St. Mary’s Glacier is at the end of a short hike (less than a mile) up to St. Mary’s Lake. During mid to late summer, you’ll find fields of wild flowers and plenty of beautiful Rocky Mountain views. The trail and surounding area can have some heavy traffic during weekends in the summer. We suggest starting mid to late afternoon as the sun quickly hides behind the ridge before the valley is completely shaded.
Being national forest, you aren’t required to have an special permits other than paying for parking. We do ask that every couple respects the environment and doesn’t venture off onto one of the many social trails created by the many visiting tourists.
